And in Other News...

All he wants for Easter is is two front teeth…. ;) (and maybe the ones on the bottom too…)

Again.

Another snow day. On the bright side, we have Tom here today, which is kind of a fun twist.
Ben has taken to yelling at the sky when it snows now. He wants summer back more than anyone.

In other news, Ben's winless basketball team won their last game of the season and THEN won the first game of the playoffs! They play again Wednesday night against the league's #1 team. It likely will be quite ugly, but, at least they got there. :) This is the year they stop giving participation trophies (huzzah!)... only the teams who come in 1st  and 2nd get trophies.... I wonder how that will go over after four years of getting one for just playing?  (stupid participation trophies!)

Simon started with a new swim teacher on Saturday and that went well.  We'll be paying out the nose for two sets of private lessons from now until summer, but it's an investment that is well worth it to have competent swimmers as Jonathan will require at least 95% of my pool attention this summer, for certain.  Would love for him to get back in and do lessons with Simon's new teacher too, but not sure that will happen.

Jonathan.... he spends a lot of time in timeout these days. Oddly, when he is not in timeout or doing something to get himself put there, he is seriously amazingly sweet and wonderful and possibly my most affectionate and effusive kid. No one outside of my house would probably believe this because they hardly ever see this Jonathan. When we leave the house (or bring other people into the house) he becomes crabby, anti-social and contrary.

He is definitely QUITE strong-willed and tests boundaries like no other child of mine ever has. For example, when in timeout, the rule is, he may not get down from his bed. (or move up and down on the steps, depending on where we do the timeout) So instead, he will hover his feet as close to the floor as he possibly can. (or hover himself over the next step) In the picture below, he had thrown his sleeping bag on the floor and was putting his feet on that and saying, "See? My feet are NOT on the floor, they are on the sleeping bag." Yes. He exhausts me and he is way too smart for his own good...  but we are consistent and hoping to work out the really tough stuff in the next months ahead before his 4th birthday. He just needs to know we mean business.... not that he will ever stop testing limits, it's part of who he is.... but at least he'll have begun to really understand consequences and perhaps make better choices.

Simon! He lost his third tooth last weekend. We were out to dinner and he said his tooth hurt. Turned out it was just loose (suddenly!). It came out the next evening before bed, just in time for the tooth fairy to pay a visit. :)  It was a bottom one next to his two new ones.  I'm guessing the one on the other side will not be far behind.

Other things happening --
* working on a possible August Disney trip. I'm kind of meh about the idea, but the rest of the family is into it, so we'll see....

* we've used a new chore chart system for about a month now that has had amazing success, will share about that in a future post!

Starting the Braces Fund NOW....

I noticed this morning that Simon's adult teeth are now poking through. I did a double, no TRIPLE take though when I saw how they are positioned. Lordy day.

I always sort of assumed he'd need braces because he definitely has Tom's mouth/teeth and HE needed braces. His baby teeth were perfectly lined up and right up against one another, a telltale sign of future necessary orthodontic work.  Ben's baby teeth had loads of gaps between them and his adult teeth have come in completely straight.

Behold. (excuse the cream cheese on his face. I took this picture at the bagel shop.)

Now, I did a little reading on the topic and it said not to panic YET. That the teeth most times will naturally move forward into a better position. But man, that one on the left is coming in at quite the interesting angle. I can't really tell what the right side is doing yet, as only one one nub has emerged.... time will tell, I suppose!! In the meantime, better start saving....

First Tooth! :)

The boys ran out of the parent pickup line yesterday and as Simon was talking, I noticed he was missing a bottom tooth!   I knew it was loose, but didn't think it was THAT loose.

"You lost your tooth!"

"Oh! Yeah... I lost it at lunch. I couldn't find it!" Oh my... he was so casual about the whole thing. I guess I'm still traumatized about Ben's reaction to losing his first few teeth because I was bracing myself for craziness.

So he actually LOST the tooth. Boo!

He says it just fell out of his mouth onto the floor and went missing. SImon was very nonchalant about it all.  He came home and wrote a quick explanation to the tooth fairy that said, "I lost my tooth at lunch."

The tooth fairy was NOT quite ready for that tooth to come out, but she was able to scrounge together some quarters! ;)

She better stock up though because the other bottom one is, apparently, also an "any day now" situation and he says the top ones are loose now too. OMG! WHen it rains, it pours with the loose teeth around here!

This Just In!

Simon has a loose tooth! :) He's pretty psyched about this! :)

It's funny... I found out the same way I did with Ben. Randomly, Simon just said, "My tooth feels weird." I knew exactly what it was!!!! So excited for him. Most of his little friends have already lost teeth.

Tooth Fairy is on Duty Again Tonight...

Ben lost one of his bottom teeth at school (#6!) today and brought it home in the most adorable little green tooth-sized treasure chest from the school nurse. :o) He was so excited so have lost it at school. He has wanted that to happen since he started losing teeth!

So yeah, a visit from the Tooth Fairy is in order tonight, I suppose, which kinda stinks because I had been meaning to get to the bank to get some golden dollars for these occasions. Didn't make it. Oh well, maybe next time. He'll have to settle for quarters. ;)

Toothless Wonder...

So, for those who weren't following my Facebook status tooth saga, Ben finally lost the most disgusting dangling loose front tooth ever. It fell out when I barely touched it with a toothbrush yesterday morning. When this happened, he freaked his freak out and immediately took a deep breath to let out a huge scream of panic.

That's when the tooth disappeared from where it had fallen into the bottom of his mouth and flew into the back of his throat with all the suction of a top-of-the-line Dyson vacuum cleaner.

It was all a blur after that. The screaming. The freaking. The tooth was gone. Eventually, he recovered and was a much happier little guy since that uncomfortable loose tooth was finally out. I sent him to school. At some point, it occurred to me that if he HAD actually inhaled it, that that might not be good. A few quick Google searches confirmed this.

Crud.

I had to get Simon to school though so I waited to call the pediatrician until we we got home. I was hoping for a pat on the head and an assurance that it was no big deal, he was fine. WRONG. The pediatrician said that, while it was unlikely he had actually inhaled it and not just swallowed it (because he recovered so quickly without much coughing), he still needed to know for the all the reasons I had encountered in my Google search.

Tom ran him up to Advanced Radiology around 4:30, where they don't think they saw anything. But the doctor will let us know on Monday.

At this point, I'm sure he's fine. BUt still... for the love of PETE. Who knew a loose tooth could cause this much DRAMA?!?!

No Teeth Ben...

My card reader finally arrived and thus, I can post this picture of my child with no teeth. He even has a little lisp now. ;) Lucky for him, the permanent tooth of the FIRST tooth he lost on the bottom is almost all the way in, or he'd really be in a bad way!

I apologize for the lack of posting. It will improve soon, I promise. (especially now that I have a card reader and can post pics!)

Happy New Year!

Okay, a day late... sorry! Things have been crazy at the Baby Human house lately. Thankfully, all returns to normal on MONDAY. Yay!

The latest news in our house? One of Ben's top teeth is hanging by a thread ready to come out. This sort of came out of nowhere... it was barely loose for weeks and then all of a sudden, yesterday, he said he could push it straight out with his tongue. And indeed, he could. Ew. I really want it to come out soon because it. is. disgusting. I now know why my parents were always threatening to pull the teeth that I would let hang by a thread for weeks at a time. (gag gag) It's causing him quite a bit of distress and he says it hurts. All I can do is tell him to keep wiggling it, or maybe throw balls at his face.

Let's see, what else? I have to figure out how to take both kids to the doctor next week for their followups. School really complicates these things! The original appointment they gave me for Ben (before Simon's ear infection entered the picture) was 5p.m. on Monday. Ugh. That means I'd have to get Ben off the bus and drive in rush hour traffic to get there and then home, in the dark, also in rush hour traffic. Yeah, notsomuch cool. I think I'm going to take him out of school at lunchtime one day next week and get them both there and then return Ben to school in time for his special at 12:50, so all he'll miss is lunch (which he can eat on the way), recess and independent reading. How do other parents of school-age kids work this?! Anyone?

ETA: Tooth out! Hooray! I couldn't look at it hanging there like that much longer...
